1 NIGHT/ 2 DAYS TRIP KURINGHAT –NARAYANGHAT WHITE WATER

We leave Kathmandu by 7am in the morning and drive the highway through Thankot, where there is a police check post. While clearing the formalities, required by the police checkpost – we will be greeted by hawkers with arrys of chewing gums and biscuits. Then we drive out of the valley and enter Khani Khola. The valley offers a panoramic view of a backcountry with terraced fields, rich greenery and thatched houses with smiling children, weaving hands. On a clear morning, we can enjoy the white capped mountain chains in distance, of these are the Ganesh Himal, Manslu and Himalchuli, are the best to name a few. We stop at Naubise (26km) for few minutes and stretch our legs for further drive.

From this point, we will be driving on the Prithivi Highway-174 km that links Pokhara with Kathmandu. Built by the Chinese in late 60’s – the road runs all the way along river trail (Trisuli) passing a number of villages enroute. After 2 hours drive we reach Bhaireni, where we catch the first sight of river Trisuli. The river, where we are going to float later on. We continue to drive following the river until we finally stop at KURINGHAT. This is our raft-put-in-point.

Day 1 :
KURINGHAT/ SIMALTAL

The river Trisuli derives its name from the word Trisul the trident of Lord Shiva. It drains down from Langtang glaciers in the Himalayas flowing past the township of Trisuli Bazzar in the northern region of Kathmandu valley. It acts as one of the vital tributaries of river Narayani, which is being the largest in Central Nepal. Eventually, it merges with river Ganges in India

After the raft is properly rigged, the River Guide (acting as a trip leader) will highlight the Safety Procedures and hand over life jackets, paddle, Oar (Oar specially when there is a family trip with children) to all participants. Throughout the trip, we will be encountering several big and small rapids. And, according to Colorado River rating scale – these are rated from 3-7 river scale. For your information, the river rating is based on the Grand Canyon Colorado River scale 1-10(1 being the easiest and 10 the most difficult). Also all these rapids have their individual names and the River Guide gives you the related stories behind them (so go for it). For your information rapids do increase in size and frequency as the current accelerates.

Once we are over this part, we will encounter the calm section, where we will relax, have fun, swim, sun bath or just have a good relaxation until we come to the last rapid @BIJULI RALPID@ before the (extensive suspension) hanging bridge (Jholunge Pul). Finally we reach KURINGHAT and make the night camping.

There are many medium standard RAPIDS an excitements throughout the float by meeting @ S BEND RAPID @ The guide will allocate the spot, free of obstacles – should anyone wish to swim during the tenure of this portion float, we will continue floating on @PIN BALL RAPID@ at MUGLING confluence it is quite tricky with big boulders in the middle of the river but will pass without any problem. Now we find ourselves floating between deep gorge with scores of BLUE ROCK pigeons on the way. Drifting lesurely we reach an expanded beach, at the foot of the forest called MAYA BEACH. We continue to float shooting through rapids called @DOUBLEDECKER @ T POT @. On the way we see local inhabitants crossing the river on log-raft with food supplies from town. We will be having lunch on a well selected spot and relax for some fun and enjoyment while continuing with our floating – we now reach SIMALTAL, a well-expanded beach for overnight camping.

Day 2 :
SIMALTAL/NARAYANGHAT

The day starts with bed tea at 6:30am and breakfast to follow at 8:00am. The camp will be pulled down and everything packed up and it is now again time to go back on the river. As soon as we cross the Seti River Confluence enroute – this scenic streyched float will encounter you with @Rocky II@ Rapid & @Coffee Pot@ rapid respectively. Now you notice that the river becomes wider and dramatic changes on the topographic feature and the vegetation in the afternoon, driffting leisurely finally we shall be reaching Jugedi. From here you will feel a difference with the previous days campsite since by this time we will have arrived in the Terai region – the flatland of the region. Continue rafting on flat water where you pass Dev Ghat shrine settlement. It is here, where the famed Crazy Baba with his one hand lives and is very popular throughout the village and other areas. We can pay him the visit if anyone wishes to do so. This is a religious spot for the Hindus, who worship during Mangesankranti & Shivaratri – the big religious festivals of the kingdom of Nepal. The devotees take holy bath at the confluence of Kali Gandaki river, which joins, christening the Trisuli River to Narayani River and remains with this new name till it meets eventually with Holy Ganges in India.

We continue rafting all the way down river till we reach Narayanghat, our raft-put-out-point (which was once a ferrying spot when there was no bridge to go across by the local). Here we change quickly into the dry clothes and meet the transportation then we drive back to Kathmandu (overland) and by late afternoon say around 1830 hours (6 hours drive) you will have reached your hotel doors.

For your information, the river rating is based on the Grand Canyon Colorado River scale 1-10 (1 being the easiest and 10 the most difficult). Also, all these rapids have their individual names, and the River Guide gives you the related stories behind them. (so go for it).
