3 NIGHTS/ 4 DAYS RIVER MARSYANGDI
We leave Kathmandu by 7 a.m. in the morning and drive the highway through Thankot, where there is a police checkpost. While clearing the formalities required by the police checkpost – we will be greeted by hawkers with arrys of chewing gums and biscuits. Then we drive out of the valley and enter Khani Khola. The valley offers a panoramic view of a back country with terraced fields, rich greenery and thatched houses with smiling children, weaving hands. On a clear morning, we can enjoy the white capped mountain chains in distance, of these are Ganesh Himal; Manalslu and Himalchuli are the best to name a few. We stop at Naubise (26 kilometres) for few minutes and stretch our legs for further drive. From this point, we will be driving on the Prithivi Highway – at 200 kilometres which links Pokhara with Kathmandu. Built by the Chinese in late 60’s – the road runs all the way along river trial (Trisuli) passing a number of villages enroute.
Day 1:
After 6 hours drive we reach BESISAHAR. This is the same road that leads to DUMRE BAZAR and takes the diversion towards MARSYANGDI VALLEY following the river till BESISAHAR. From DUMRE it will take you 3 hours to reach there, where we spent the night over at camp or lodges.
Day 2:
At Besisahar, raft-put-in-point the raft is properly rigged, the RIVER GUIDE (acting as a trip leader) will highlight the safety talk and distribute helmets and vests and oars to the participants. Breakfast is served around 8 a.m. and will leave the camp to float in river Marsyangdi. We raft until 12 noon and stop for lunch somewhere nearby beach. Continue rafting until 4 p.m. in the evening and look for a good beach for night camping.
Day 3:
The third day, we wake you up at 6 a.m. with steaming hot tea inside the tent and breakfast follows around 8 a.m. After breakfast we start packing for 3rd day. After the raft is properly rigged, we start floating – the first half is another leisurely floating, all day till we pass through the villages, mixed up of different tribal/ethnic groups. The trekking trails can be seen besides the river and finally come to the camp spot at TURTURE BAZAR for the day. Rapids, we will be encountering will be of grade 3-4 within this day.
Day 4:
The day starts with bed tea at 6:30 a.m. and breakfast to follow at 8 a.m. The camp will be pulled down and everything packed up and it is now again time to go back on the river. We proceed through GORKHA DISTRICT, where there is an old palace of King Prithivi Narayan Shah. A very few rapids join here at the small bridge at BIMAL NAGAR and this is our raft-put-out-point.
Here we change quickly into the dry clothes and meet the transportation are available for clients going back to Kathmandu (overland) or Pokhara or Chitwan National Park whatever itinerary they have next.
For your information, the river rating is based on the Grand Canyon Colorado River scale 1-8 ( 1 being the easiest and 8 the most difficult). Marsyangdi gives you 3-6 grade water scale
